Adani Airports to Raise $1 Billion From Temasek, BlackRock and Other Global Investors

Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) is set to raise close to Rs 9,825 crore, roughly $1 billion, through a fresh equity sale to a consortium of global institutional investors, in one of the largest capital raises yet for an Indian airport operator. The investor group, which includes Singapore's Temasek, funds managed by BlackRock, Alpha Wave Global and Azim Premji's Premji Invest, will together acquire a 5.54% stake in AAHL, according to details of the transaction disclosed Wednesday.

The deal values Adani's airport business at a pre-money equity valuation of about $18 billion, underscoring investor appetite for India's aviation infrastructure at a time when passenger traffic across the country's airports continues to climb. AAHL operates a network of airports including Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, and has been expanding aggressively into new terminals, cargo facilities and ancillary businesses over the past few years.

Deal structure and use of proceeds

The investment will be executed in three tranches under share subscription and shareholders' agreements already signed with AAHL, with the final tranche expected to close by July 2027. Company executives said the fresh capital would be deployed toward modernizing and expanding airport infrastructure, building out integrated "airport-city" developments around key hubs, and scaling non-aeronautical revenue streams such as retail, food and beverage, parking and hospitality, areas that have become an increasingly important profit driver for airport operators globally as they look beyond traditional landing and passenger fees.

Part of a broader fundraising push

The transaction adds to a string of recent capital-raising moves across the Adani group's infrastructure businesses, as the conglomerate looks to diversify its investor base and secure long-term institutional capital for capital-intensive projects. For AAHL specifically, backing from marquee names such as BlackRock and Temasek is likely to be read by the market as a vote of confidence in the airport unit's growth trajectory, particularly as India's aviation sector continues to add capacity to keep pace with rising domestic and international travel demand.

Analysts tracking the sector have pointed to India's airport privatization push and rising middle-class travel demand as key tailwinds for operators like AAHL, even as the industry grapples with questions around tariff regulation and capital intensity. The scale of Wednesday's fundraise suggests global investors remain willing to commit fresh capital to Indian infrastructure assets despite broader volatility in emerging markets tied to global oil prices and interest rate uncertainty.

The fundraise comes as AAHL has previously flagged ambitions for a public listing of its airport business, with the latest equity infusion seen as a step that could strengthen its balance sheet ahead of any future stock market debut.
