Ola Electric Opens First Network-Partner Stores as Shares Extend Rally to 14%

Ola Electric moved to widen its retail footprint on Wednesday, opening the first cohort of network-partner stores across multiple states in a shift toward a dealer-operated distribution model, a move that coincided with one of the stock's sharpest single-day rallies in weeks.

A new retail approach

Unlike Ola Electric's earlier company-owned experience centres, the newly launched outlets are run by independent network partners under a dealership-style arrangement, a model more familiar to traditional two-wheeler buyers in India. Chief Business Officer Manoj Murali said the company's S1Z range, which starts at Rs 79,999, is expected to play a central role in pushing electric scooters into the mainstream, positioning the model as an accessible entry point for first-time EV buyers in smaller towns and cities where dealer networks carry more trust than direct-to-consumer digital sales.

The shift comes as Ola Electric has faced scrutiny over its after-sales service and showroom experience in the past, making a more conventional, locally accountable dealership network a potentially meaningful change in how the company engages with customers outside major metros.

Capital and governance moves

Alongside the retail announcement, Ola Electric's board approved increasing the company's authorised share capital from Rs 8,318.50 crore to Rs 8,721.87 crore, a technical step that expands the ceiling on shares the company is permitted to issue without necessarily signalling an immediate fundraise. The change is set to be taken up formally at the company's annual general meeting scheduled for September 30.

Market reaction

Shares of Ola Electric surged as much as 12% intraday to touch a high near Rs 42.32, with roughly 90 lakh shares changing hands in just the first 20 minutes of trade, well above the stock's two-week average volume of about 47.77 lakh shares for a comparable period. Wednesday's move extended a rally that has now stretched to a third consecutive session, taking cumulative gains over that period to nearly 14%.

The bigger picture

Ola Electric's stock has been volatile over the past year, weighed down at various points by narrowing but still substantial losses, service complaints and regulatory scrutiny over its claimed sales figures. A visible push into physical, dealer-led retail, paired with continued updates to its most affordable scooter range, suggests the company is leaning into distribution and trust-building as a growth lever heading into the festive season, traditionally the strongest stretch of the year for two-wheeler sales in India. Whether the network-partner model can meaningfully improve service perception, and whether that translates into sustained volume growth rather than just a short-term stock reaction, will be the more important test in the months ahead.
