Defence-Tech Startup KshatraLabs Raises Pre-Seed Funding to Build India's Counter-Drone Interceptors

Indian defence-technology startup KshatraLabs has secured an undisclosed pre-seed investment from venture fund Finvolve and India Accelerator, as the company works to bring its autonomous counter-drone systems closer to field deployment.

KshatraLabs is developing HAWK, an autonomous aerial interceptor designed to detect, track and neutralise hostile drones at speeds upward of 300 km/h, with under five seconds of launch readiness. The system pairs external sensors such as radar with onboard electro-optical and infrared sensors to guide the interceptor autonomously toward its target, using a proprietary autonomy software stack the company calls APEX. According to the company, this software-first approach is built to deliver fast, accurate responses even in high-speed, contested environments.

The fresh capital will go toward product development, expanding the company's engineering team, and progressing its systems to higher technology readiness levels ahead of field validation. KshatraLabs said the funds would also cover legal and intellectual property costs, certifications, participation in defence industry events and broader operational needs.

Ashish Bhatia, co-founder of Finvolve and founder and CEO of India Accelerator, said India's evolving defence landscape requires indigenous technologies capable of addressing emerging threats with speed, autonomy and cost efficiency, describing KshatraLabs' work on counter-drone defence as addressing a critical capability gap. Rishav Dev Mishra, co-founder and CEO of KshatraLabs, said the company's systems are designed to navigate, intercept and close the "kill chain" entirely autonomously using sensor fusion and edge computing, with ambitions to extend mission autonomy across air, land and sea platforms over time.

The investment lands at a moment when counter-drone capability has become a pressing priority for militaries globally, following a wave of drone and drone-swarm threats seen in recent conflicts. KshatraLabs said it is also developing swarm-capable interceptor systems intended to coordinate responses against multiple simultaneous drone threats, along with an AI-driven command-and-control layer meant to fuse data from multiple sensors and support real-time decision-making in GPS-denied environments.

The company has already completed hardware-in-the-loop testing at speeds of 90 metres per second and has engaged with the Indian Armed Forces to gather feedback on its hard-kill interceptor systems. It has also received a grant under India's SISF scheme, which supports strategically important startups, and says it is aligned with several active defence procurement requirements. The funding follows broader momentum in India's counter-drone sector, where domestic defence orders for such technologies have reportedly run into the billions of dollars as security forces look to indigenise capabilities rather than rely on imported systems.

With the new capital, KshatraLabs is aiming to advance its swarm interceptor technology to Technology Readiness Level 6, pursue strategic partnerships, and carry out operational field trials as it works toward formal defence procurement opportunities. The company has also pointed to potential civilian applications for its technology, including protecting airports, power plants, refineries, ports and other critical infrastructure from unauthorised drone incursions, suggesting a possible commercial market beyond its core defence focus.
