Milky Mist Shares Jump 9.5% as Q1 Profit Surges Nearly Tenfold
Shares of Milky Mist Dairy Food rallied as much as 9.5 per cent in early trade on Tuesday, September 1, after the dairy products company reported a sharp jump in first-quarter profit for FY27, reinforcing investor confidence in one of this year's better-performing new listings.
The numbers behind the rally
The stock touched an intraday high of Rs 231 on the BSE, up from its previous close of Rs 210.90, before paring some gains. Around mid-morning trade, shares were changing hands roughly 6-6.5 per cent higher even as the benchmark Sensex traded largely flat. Trading volumes were notably heavy, with over 1 crore shares changing hands across the BSE and NSE combined.
Milky Mist's profit after tax for the April-June quarter came in at Rs 64.68 crore, compared with just Rs 6.53 crore in the same period a year earlier, an increase of nearly 890 per cent. Revenue from operations rose 43.6 per cent year-on-year to Rs 973.45 crore, helped by strong demand across the company's product portfolio during an extended summer season, particularly in southern India.
What drove the growth
The company's paneer business remained its largest revenue contributor, growing 34 per cent year-on-year. Cheese and curd categories also posted healthy growth of 38 per cent and 27 per cent respectively, while ice cream sales rose 60 per cent. The standout performer was the yogurt segment, which grew 153 per cent year-on-year. Profitability also improved meaningfully, with EBITDA margin expanding to 14.88 per cent from 12.24 per cent a year earlier, reflecting better pricing power and operating efficiency.
Since its stock market debut
Milky Mist listed on Indian exchanges on August 18 following a well-received initial public offering priced at Rs 140 per share. With Tuesday's intraday high, the stock now trades roughly 65 per cent above its offer price, making it one of the stronger performers among recent consumer sector listings on Dalal Street.
Management commentary
Company leadership struck an optimistic tone about the year ahead, pointing to plans for continued portfolio expansion, investment in manufacturing and distribution capacity, and a focus on operating discipline. Management said the company remains focused on strengthening its brand presence and market reach while balancing growth investments with financial discipline.
What it signals for investors
Milky Mist's post-listing performance offers a data point for investors evaluating recently listed FMCG and consumer-facing companies, a segment that has drawn heavy IPO interest in India over the past year. A near-tenfold jump in quarterly profit, paired with broad-based category growth, suggests the company's expansion strategy is translating into tangible earnings gains, though sustaining this pace of growth through the rest of FY27 will be the key test for the stock's valuation going forward.
