Adroit Industries Lists at 75% Premium as Elevate Campuses Slips Below Issue Price

Wednesday's listing session offered a clear lesson in how subscription demand translates into day-one returns. Of the four companies that debuted on the exchanges, the smallest and most heavily oversubscribed issue delivered a bumper gain, while the largest, Elevate Campuses, opened below the price at which investors were allotted shares.

Elevate Campuses opens at a discount

Elevate Campuses, the Hillhouse-backed student housing and K-12 school infrastructure company, listed at Rs 355.10 on the NSE, about 1.9% below its issue price of Rs 362. On the BSE, the stock opened at Rs 356.50, a discount of roughly 1.5%. (We covered the issue's structure and anchor book when it opened; see our earlier coverage.)

The muted start was not a total surprise. The Rs 2,100 crore issue, an entirely fresh share sale, was subscribed just 1.79 times overall. Qualified institutional buyers bid for 2.52 times their allotted quota, retail investors 1.01 times, and the non-institutional portion was left undersubscribed at 0.84 times. Grey market indicators ahead of the listing had pointed to only a small premium of under 2%, and even that failed to hold at the open.

The weak debut comes despite a sharp improvement in the company's financials. Revenue from operations rose from about Rs 370 crore in FY25 to nearly Rs 569 crore in FY26, and profit after tax more than tripled to around Rs 174 crore. That suggests the lukewarm reception has more to do with broad market conditions and issue size than with the company's recent performance.

Adroit Industries: 177 times subscribed, 75% listing gain

At the other end of the scale, auto component maker Adroit Industries (India) listed at Rs 235 on the NSE, a premium of 75.4% over its issue price of Rs 134. On the BSE, the stock opened even higher at Rs 250, up 86.6%.

Demand for the Rs 150.71 crore issue had been extraordinary. It was subscribed 176.85 times overall, with the non-institutional category bid 332 times, QIBs 195 times and retail investors nearly 100 times. The issue combined a fresh share sale of about Rs 133 crore with a small offer for sale by the promoter group. The company plans to use the fresh money for machinery and vehicles, and to repay debt at its driveshaft subsidiary.

Swastika Infra and ArMee Infotech

Power engineering company Swastika Infra opened at Rs 200 on both exchanges, an 8.1% premium to its Rs 185 issue price, after its Rs 160.88 crore IPO drew 7.6 times subscription.

ArMee Infotech, which provides IT infrastructure and managed services largely to government and PSU clients, listed flat at its Rs 375 issue price on the NSE. On the BSE, it slipped about 1.6% to Rs 368.85. Its Rs 300 crore fresh issue had been subscribed 2.44 times.

What the split tells investors

The pattern across the four listings is consistent: the higher the oversubscription, the better the debut. That relationship tends to strengthen when the secondary market is weak, as it has been through September, because investors are less willing to pay up for new shares without strong evidence of excess demand. For anyone applying to the IPOs that open this week, the subscription data from the final day, especially from institutional investors, may be a more useful guide than grey market chatter.
